No time for Global Inaction! - Sounds like a theme No time for Global Inaction! - Sounds like a theme coined by a Nigerian right? That is the theme for this year's International Day of Zero Tolerance for Female Genital Mutilation.

This year we are commemorating February 6th in a different way but the goal is the same, we want to drive the conversation of FGM and let people know it is still an issue in our communities and not just in the rural areas.

Find a reason to stop the practice today. Read and learn about the consequences of Female Genital Mutilation and lend your voice to help end FGM in our generation.

All forms of FGM are associated with short and lon All forms of FGM are associated with short and long term health risk and consequences. It also comes with major psychological consequences that may trigger behavioral disturbances in children, closely linked to loss of trust and confidence in caregivers.

FGM does not have any positive effect on the female child but rather puts the life of the female in danger. The time to stop this act is now irrespective of our religion, culture and tribe. Begin your own campaign, and let us know how this goes.

The practice of FGM still thrives as a result of i The practice of FGM still thrives as a result of its connection with religion, cultural and traditional beliefs of people. FGM is widely recognized as a violation of human rights, and is deeply rooted in beliefs and perceptions of people.

According to the Nigeria Demographics and Health Survey (2018), the prevalence of FGM is highest among Yoruba women (35%) and urban women are more likely than rural women to have experienced FGM (24% and 16%, respectively).
