Our entire team congratulates Malala Yousafzai on another birthday anniversary. Thanks to your doggedness, girls in Nigeria and other countries across the world continue to have the opportunity of 12 years of quality education. Your commitment inspires the work we do at Onelife Initiative on Inclusive Education. Once again, here’s wishing you a memorable year even as we look forward to you ‘Finding your Way’ in October! We look forward to reading about the journey from the Swat Valley to becoming a loud voice for girls education through the platform of Malala Fund. #happybirthday #Malala #malalafund #TeachHer #stateofgirlseducation … See MoreSee Less

📿“But I did it to protect her…” Many par 📿“But I did it to protect her…”

Many parents say this when it comes to FGM.

But protection does not mean pain.
The Qur’an teaches us mercy, compassion, and dignity not harm.
Our bodies are a trust (Amanah) from Allah.

To mutilate a girl’s body is to go against what Islam commands.
If anyone tells you that FGM is Islamic,
📖 Ask them to show you where because it’s not in the Qur’an.
📢It’s time to unlearn harmful culture and follow the path of compassion.

Protect. Don’t cut.
Love. Don’t wound.
Faith does NOT support FGM.

Today no be just public holiday, Na memory of peop Today no be just public holiday,
Na memory of people wey no gree make truth die.
Na June 12, 1993, we vote! we stand!
But dem cancel am say democracy no dey for hand.

We remember MKO Abiola, the mandate wey stand tall,
Even as dem try silence am, him still answer the call.
E no easy, tears and protest full ground,
But Nigerians talk say make freedom wear crown.

Now we dey chop the fruit, small small, e dey grow,
Even if palava still full, the wind of change dey blow.
Democracy fit no dey perfect, but na our own way,
To speak, to vote, to dream na wetin we dey celebrate today.

So today, as we dey relax for house or rest for bed,
Make we reason the blood and sweat wey don drop before.
Democracy no be gift, we fight, we earn am!
Make we guard am like gold, no let bad belle burn am.

Not every student in Mathematics class is wonderin Not every student in Mathematics class is wondering why the hypotenuse is longer than the adjacent. Or why the G in Google is pronounced while the G in Sign is silent! For some girls, they are quietly asking if playing with boys can lead to pregnancy, why their period blood is black, or how to seek help after abuse from a trusted adult.

Algebra won’t answer these questions. Neither will Civic Education. But during our recent School Connect session at Saint Mary Anglican Girls High School, Ikole Ekiti over 50 of such real, pressing questions were answered. We talked about managing menstruation, gaol setting, preventing unplanned pregnancies, self esteem, reporting SGBV, and understanding the value of abstinence. And we gave answers; honest, clear answers.

Basic Science won’t cut it. If you’re a school owner, teacher, or decision-maker, and want us to bring Comprehensive Sexuality Education to your students, send us a DM.

A girl or boy may just be one right piece of information away from a safe, healthy decision.
Let’s get that info to them.

Thank you to Saint Mary Anglican Girls High School for welcoming us back!

To help the identification and understanding of th To help the identification and understanding of the knowledge gaps in sexual and reproductive health and rights among women and girls in Ekiti State, we conducted focus group discussions, in-depth interviews and key informant interviews with participants across the 3 senatorial districts in Ekiti State. These findings now form the baseline for our intervention in the state with support from Amplify Change.

With the support of the Ekiti State Ministry of Health and Human Services, we engaged over 300 participants from various local government areas with various groups represented. Teachers, female undergraduates, male undergraduates, in-school girls, health care workers, chemist store owners, community leaders, religious leaders, female sex workers, bike riders, farmers, artisans, persons with disabilities and other marginalised groups.

The ECHO Project is our direct response to the urgent need for improved SRHR services in Ekiti State. We’re grateful to @amplifychange for once again supporting our work. Every girl remembers her first period right. The Every girl remembers her first period right.

The confusion, the discomfort, the fear that this “new normal” would be a burden forever. But the truth is... menstruation doesn’t have to be scary or even shameful. With the right care and knowledge, it’s just another part of your amazing body doing what it’s meant to do...shedding its lining.

Here’s what you need to remember
— Use clean and safe menstrual products or materials and change them 2–3 times a day depending on your flow.
— Bathe at least twice daily to stay fresh and healthy.
— Always wash your hands before and after changing your pad or menstrual material.

This is also a call to all schools and educational institutions to provide quality WASH facilities so as to support girls’ period process, this way girls will not have to skip school because they are menstruating.

After a two-day Training of Trainers (ToT), our en After a two-day Training of Trainers (ToT), our entrepreneurial farmers on the Horti Nigeria project began stepping down the training to other vegetable farmers with emphasis on Good Agronomic practices needed in vegetable production.

Some farmers voiced out concerns that cut across in Oyo state which is the need for innovations aid year round production and innovations that help make the journey from seed to harvest and all through to the market easier.

Our farmers will not just be addressing gaps in horticulture alone, they will volunteer farm lands for learning/demonstration plots where vegetables like cucumber, tomatoes, onions, pepper, okra and sweet corn will be planted. And the sweet part of it is that bulk of the farms inputs have been provided for through the support from the #Hortinigeria program.

Would you like to get a copy of one of HortiNigeria’s vegetable production guide? Which is your preference? Tomato, Pepper, Onion, Cabbage, Sweet Corn, Cucumber or Okra? Leave a message in the comment section with your whatsapp or email address.

Sitting in the room and talking about freedom of R Sitting in the room and talking about freedom of Religion or belief, we are reminded that before we are anything else, either Christian, Muslim or Traditionalist, we are first human beings. We joined the 3-day workshop by @searchforcommonground which focused on Human Rights Law in Response to Religious Violations.

We gained insights which we will be integrating into our programming. We now understand that a better approach to conflict is conflict transformation rather than conflict resolution. We also looked at early warning and early response systems and how this can be applied.

It was an opportunity to connect with key actors like FIDA, @nhrcnigeria, @lacon_hq, @nba_ibadan, Nigeria Police, NSCDC and other security agencies/stakeholders committed to promoting religious freedom and human dignity. One number we will not be forgetting in a hurry is the toll-free number for reporting violations of your religion or belief which is 08000002233.

If you or anyone you know is experiencing violations of your religious rights or beliefs, reach out to us directly or call the number above for free.
