We subscribe to Robert Chambers’ school of thought where the marginalized are put at the centre of the processes of development policy thus allowing them play active and influential role in the decisions that affect their own lives. It is the only way they can be correctly heard and ensure their voices can also shape outcomes.
With respect to using Positive Youth Development, we are content with adopting a pro-social approach that is not singular in its review of current situations but has an approach that can enhance the strengths of young people productively within existing institutional structures such as school, family, communities etc. while still providing platforms and opportunities for them.
Onelife Initiative deploys Participatory Learning and Action (PLA) and Positive Youth Development (PYD) approaches for its work given its drive for sustainability.
