Call for Consultants in 5 States: Assessment of Re-Entry Opportunities for Married and Pregnant Girls in Northern Nigeria

Locations: Bauchi, Borno, Adamawa, Kano, and Kaduna (1 consultant per state).
Education is a right, not a privilege, yet for many married and pregnant girls in Northern Nigeria, the school gates often shut prematurely. Onelife Initiative is committed to changing this narrative with its partners. We are seeking five (5) dedicated and experienced consultants to conduct a deep-dive assessment into the practices and opportunities for school re-entry in Bauchi, Borno, Adamawa, Kano, and Kaduna states. On the Strengthening Systems and Communities to End Child Marriage (SSCE) project, our goal is to turn data into action, creating a roadmap for state-level policies and federal interventions that ensure these girls return to the classroom.
Scope of Assignment and Key Deliverables
The selected consultants will be expected to lead the assessment process in their respective states, ensuring cultural nuance and academic rigour are properly blended. The key deliverables are:
1. Development of an assessment framework;
2. Conduct Key Informants Interviews, Focus Group Discussions and or In-depth Interviews;
3. Analyse data from findings and submit a comprehensive report with actionable recommendations for high-level advocacy and trigger state-level action;
4. Facilitate the validation of findings with stakeholders to aid alignment of partners on next steps.
Requirements
We are looking for experts who understand that this isn’t just a research project. It is about ensuring girls are not shut out of schools because they are married or pregnant, or because they have kids.
1. An advanced degree (Master’s or Ph.D.) in Social Sciences, Gender Studies, Education, or a related field.
2. At least 5–7 years of experience in conducting qualitative research, specifically regarding gender, education, or child rights in Northern Nigeria.
3. Proven understanding of the barriers to girls’ education, including early marriage and adolescent pregnancy.
4. Deep familiarity with the socio-political and cultural landscape of the specific state applied for (Bauchi, Borno, Adamawa, Kano, or Kaduna).
5. Fluency in English and Hausa (or the primary local dialect of the target state) is desired.
6. Ability to synthesise complex qualitative data into clear, persuasive, and ‘advocacy-ready’ reports.
7. Exceptional interpersonal skills with a knack for managing diverse stakeholder groups during validation exercises.
Application Process
If you have the expertise to help bridge the gap between policy and the classroom, we want to see your application. Interested candidates should submit:
1. A technical proposal (maximum of 4 pages) outlining your understanding of the assignment, your approach and methodology for the state of interest.
2. One-page financial proposal detailing your daily rate and total costs.
3. An updated CV highlighting relevant past projects
To apply, kindly fill the form here and attach the 3 requested documents. Only applications submitted via this Google Form will be processed. A Gmail address is needed to fill the form. Onelife Initiative is an equal opportunity employer. We especially encourage female experts from the target states to apply.
