Our conversations at our weekly meeting centred around our Enterprise Development and Employability Project. It is in particular an idea we have nurtured for the past four years. This project embodies our vision of empowering young people with essential skills while equipping them with SRHR information for self-sustainability. Lips partly sealed for now! 🤐 We’re immensely proud of the dedication and perseverance that has brought us to this moment, and we can’t wait to see the impact it will make.We also conversed around our work on the State of Girl Child Education project and how we can better engage partners with updates during project implementations. These project implementations are not without hitches, and so we try to work around them, review, and modify our strategy for better outcomes. We commemorated the International Girls in ICT Day in #OyoState and #EkitiState this year. Our focus was on female adolescents and young people getting ready to step into higher institutions. For many of them, it was their first encounter with a computer and one could sense their nervousness as they touched the mouse. We are particularly worried by this experience in both locations miles apart and think that JAMB has a responsibility to do more to address this gap. For a start, the mock exam should not be optional. It should be compulsory for all so the student can foresee the challenge ahead.We showed them a trial version of their upcoming UTME exams on Ratelsoft where they got to practice and also showed them essential softwares like #PowerPoint, #MicrosoftWord, and #Excel. These skills are vital as they embark on their ICT journeys while overcoming some gender barriers in a traditionally male-dominated field.The excitement and determination to learn was obvious. While they may have mastered the subjects, many of them were yet to master how to deliver the answers through technology. This will clearly mark the difference between failing or passing the computer based exams which was scheduled to happen this week. About 2 million Nigerians are sitting for the JAMB this year. With sessions like these, we’re not just preparing them for exams but also helping them see that there is so much more they can do with ICT skills that will serve them for a lifetime.We are grateful to Exam Clinic, Apata in #Ibadan and Emerald Educational Services, #Ikole, #Ekiti for accommodating us to support 55 students. Today, May 16th, marks the International Day of the Boy Child. Despite strides towards gender equity, boys often find themselves left behind. Many struggle academically, facing dropout rates and turning to crime and drugs for livelihood due to lack of support and guidance.

While efforts to empower girls are commendable, it's essential not to overlook the needs of boys. They, too, are imperfect humans who require encouragement and support to reach their full potential.

Issues faced by boys include high dropout rates, homelessness, involvement in crime, and limited opportunities. It's time to create equal opportunities for boys to thrive alongside girls. Mental health support and funding initiatives are crucial for boys to fulfill their potential.

On this International Day of the Boy Child, let's urge governments and stakeholders across sectors to acknowledge and address the neglect of boys, working toward a better future for all genders.

It’s a journey of one community at a time for us. We are always careful to match needs and actions using the User Centre Design. For the next 40 months, we’ll have our gaze firmly on girls and women in Oyo State as we support their efforts to increase their sexual and reproductive health autonomy.

Our partners and non-profit colleagues all made the capacity-building workshop rich and reflective. Ultimately, one of our key wins from this will be setting up SGBV prevention and reporting mechanisms in the communities of focus.

Onelife was present at the 2024 Nigeria HIV Prevention Conference were conversations on new innovations about HIV prevention, road maps, collaborative efforts and other side attractions are happening.

This could be the largest gathering of young people coming together to discuss HIV prevention in Nigeria hosted by @nacanigeria with several partners, Global and local.

This three day conference has attractions like free HIV testing and counseling, access to information materials, HIV self test kits, Condoms and lots more to help young people stay on track with their sexual health.
