We recently joined our farmers at Green Republic Farm, Olokuta, for the first planting cycle of 2024, where they’re using greenhouses for transplanting.We strongly encourage our entrepreneurial farmers to embrace greenhouse farming. We commemorated the International Girls in ICT Day

We commemorated the International Girls in ICT Day in #OyoState and #EkitiState this year. Our focus was on female adolescents and young people getting ready to step into higher institutions. For many of them, it was their first encounter with a computer and one could sense their nervousness as they touched the mouse.

We are particularly worried by this experience in both locations miles apart and think that JAMB has a responsibility to do more to address this gap. For a start, the mock exam should not be optional. It should be compulsory for all so the student can foresee the challenge ahead.

We showed them a trial version of their upcoming UTME exams on Ratelsoft where they got to practice and also showed them essential softwares like #PowerPoint, #MicrosoftWord, and #Excel. These skills are vital as they embark on their ICT journeys while overcoming some gender barriers in a traditionally male-dominated field.

The excitement and determination to learn was obvious. While they may have mastered the subjects, many of them were yet to master how to deliver the answers through technology. This will clearly mark the difference between failing or passing the computer based exams which was scheduled to happen this week.

About 2 million Nigerians are sitting for the JAMB this year. With sessions like these, we’re not just preparing them for exams but also helping them see that there is so much more they can do with ICT skills that will serve them for a lifetime.

We are grateful to Exam Clinic, Apata in #Ibadan and Emerald Educational Services, #Ikole, #Ekiti for accommodating us to support 55 students. Happy International Girls Day in ICT 2024 to every girl on the journey to feeling confident navigating the digital world!

We also gave out 4 mouse (mice 🤣🤣!) to some students during the session.

There's a wealth of indigenous knowledge deeply ingrained in our farming practices, and we make it a point to honour and acknowledge its significance.

One of our dedicated farmers shared invaluable insights during a recent session, shedding light on a traditional method to determine soil fertility for tomato cultivation.
According to him, the presence of the Akintola plant serves as a natural indicator of fertile land, eliminating the need for extensive soil tests.

Conversely, the presence of sharp sand indicates unsuitability for tomato cultivation.
While soil testing remains a vital aspect of our guidance to farmers, we also recognize the challenges they face in accessing laboratories or equipment for such tests.

Therefore, understanding and utilizing indigenous methods can serve as a practical alternative when assessing land suitability for tomato production, especially when resources are limited.
By combining traditional wisdom with modern practices and with thanks to our partners on the #HortiNigeria Project, we empower our farmers to make informed decisions when acquiring land for agricultural purposes.

Let's continue to embrace and learn from the rich tapestry of indigenous knowledge as we strive for sustainable farming practices.

Yesterday, we had a review meeting with our Commun

Yesterday, we had a review meeting with our Community Based Child Protection Structure volunteers and we got to hear first hand they step down our training, and how the activities went, the gaps, and opportunities to do more. We continue to improve our programming and find better ways to make sure that children are better protected through the community based child protection structures that have been set up.

One of the boys who benefited from the learning session with our volunteers reported his parents and eventually saved his sister from being mutilated. It was a big win for everyone. Another volunteer drove the number of children who are registered after birth with the @npc_nigeria from 5 to 30 on a weekly basis. Children have a right to names and also identification documents.

We’ll be activating our #Anfanni project with some of the groups to address the dire economic needs of some female students. We remain grateful to the partnership with @UNICEFNigeria to make these happen.

Today, in commemoration of International Women's D

Today, in commemoration of International Women's Day, we had an interesting conversation with pregnant women in Odinjo community Ibadan, Oyo State. We delved deep into gender roles, societal expectations, and the challenges faced by women, especially during pregnancy.
From traditional gender roles to the consequences of not meeting societal expectations, we discussed it all. We explored the importance of women taking care of their families while also highlighting the need for them to be economically independent.

We addressed gender issues, from abandonment to economic struggles forcing women into hawking. We shed light on the disturbing reality of sexual harassment and abuse faced by women, even in the workplace.
We also tackled the crucial topic of Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV), emphasizing the importance of speaking up and seeking support. A support number was provided for the women to call if they had any GBV issue and not long after the first case was reported.

Let's continue to raise our voices, challenge societal norms, and work towards a community where every woman is valued, supported, and empowered.
